New Places and New Faces

To run a successful business, you must make wise choices. Sounds like common sense, right? Right! I have learned that it's important to attend vendor shows in new areas. Sales are usually better when my booth is 'new and shiny' at vendor shows. I love finding new customers and sharing with them what Tall Girl Publishing is all about.

My husband and I attend about 30 vendor shows a year, and I haven't come across another children's book author who is doing what I do. It has worked very well, as 90% of my sales are from vendor shows. The other 10% are from Public Libraries and online sales.

I appreciate that vendor show hosts want me to return year after year, and in some cases, that works. Still, I would miss out on a larger customer base if I consistently attended shows in the same towns during the same community events year after year.

'New places and new faces' is the theme of this holiday selling season!

Carl Corn Have You Heard?

There's drama in the cornfield!

What’s going on?

It doesn’t take much for a situation to spiral out of control—especially when it grows into a tangled web of rumors! Discover how a single incident turns into a chaotic mix of jealousy, gossip, and misinformation.

One of Carl’s kernels has popped! Sweet Corn feels envious of Carl and exaggerates a small event into a full-blown scandal.

This engaging, rhyming early reader story highlights the risks of twisting words and sharing false information. It also illustrates the damage caused by reacting impulsively to our emotions rather than thoughtfully responding to them. Perfect for ages 6-8!

Tall Girl Publishing Newsletter March 16, 2026 First Show of 2026! As I finished my first show for 2026, I reflected on my very first show in the Spring of 2022. The pandemic was winding down, and people were starting to get back into their regular routines. For that first show, I had one published book, "The Snail That Wanted To Hop!" I was so excited that night because I had sold 11 copies! This gave me a lot of confidence and motivated me to publish the next one. From October of 2019 until...

Tall Girl Publishing Newsletter February 16, 2026 Love is in the Air! Happy Valentin's Day Yes, I love my cat. George has been with us for about 10 years now, and we think he is 13-14 years old. My husband and I adopted him from the Humane Society in Fort Dodge, IA. He is an independent kitty and knows what he wants. George is an indoor/outdoor cat, and these rare warm days throw him into bouts of spring fever. For all of you dog people out there, I am a dog person, too. We switched from...

Tall Girl Publishing Newsletter January 19, 2026 New Year, New Series! Joan Enockson With two new grandbabies arriving in 2026, my mind shifted to wishing I had a preschool or toddler series. Half would cover basic concepts and skills, and the other half would address social-emotional learning. Well, the timing was perfect when I ran into Lynda Lowery at a vendor show. As it turns out, she was thinking the same thing regarding books for early learners. Lynda Lowery Lynda and I decided to...
